Finally, a FILIPINO Medical Blog Grand Rounds!

I'm so excited typing this introductory post (my heart is thump-a-thumping!) that I almost forgot that I'm mourning (but enough of that for now...).

So, FINALLY, a grand rounds of the best in the PHILIPPINE MEDICAL BLOGOSPHERE: THE BLOG ROUNDS!

I've spoken with Bone M.D. previously about how it would be nice if we were to have a medical blog carnival similar to the Grand Rounds in which I've participated for some time (see the post in which I've hosted the Grand Rounds or GR for the first time and the time when I got featured in the pre-rounds of Medscape). The Grand Rounds is a weekly blog carnival of medical posts, which could be centered around a certain theme or it could be non-themed and is hosted by different bloggers.

Death Knocked... Good Thing No One Was Home

I dunno if I am just overreacting but I really thought I was gonna die this past week.

I was inflicted with Trangkaso, I dunno what it is in English, from my symptoms it was a combination of high fever (almost constant 39C), chills, cough, colds and to top it all diarrhea.

I had all those symptoms for almost a week now. I still have the cough, colds and diarrhea. Good thing is my fever already subsided and I hope it doesn't come back because during those periods of the chills and high fever I think I was already hallucinating. I dreamt I was being crushed by a big solid sphere. It was weird but then I would wake up and it turns out that I was not sleeping at all but watching spongebob.

Then I would think, wouldn't death be better than this? Every time I thought of this, my dog Daphney would come to me and lick my face. Maybe she understands life better than me. The simplicity of it all. Someone loves you and you love them back. After a minute of face licking I already have the energy to move around. Daphney and I would walk around the garden until I would again lose energy and need to rest. I think I sleep better after those walks. God bless them, the Dogs.

Oh well I still have some symptoms and I do hope I get cured before Monday because I think my work would now be OVER FLOWING after my 1 week Sick Leave.

Grex is In! (And Clemente too...)

Grex and Friamar at Lou Ying Village

Grex finally arrived in PW! However, he still seem to have problems with his installation that's why he can't start with his quests, with his screen going bonkers. We'll just wait for him, though. I hope he'll be able to fix it soon.

But then, while he's still troubleshooting, Ixionai and I go sight-seeing around the village:

By the way, shout out to Clemente, who's also recently joined in PW. :-) Woot!

See this post at Gaming Froshie too. Google penalize my a**... I want to post the same photos in two different blogs! Hahaha.

Comment Moderation Enabled at Prudence and Madness

It's tiring to be repeating oneself to people who seemingly fail or purposely fail to understand what the post is all about. It is not healthy to be wasting internet time over those who only aim to sow discord and not to contribute to a liberal, rational discussion. I have made myself a deal: I will not participate in discussions that leads nowhere.

Yes, the internet is free for everyone who has access to it. But that doesn't mean that everybody is also free to do anything and be held accountable for nothing. I tend to believe that anonymity online is more of a blessing than a curse. However, I've noticed that those who're likely to leave scathing comments are those who'd dare not put an identity on themselves. I think these are the kind of people who find civility a burden.

But say, I do not need to deal with them all the time, isn't it? So, for now, Prudence and Madness will be on comment moderation. Read my other post about comment moderation too, entitled "When The Need For Moderation Arises".

My (Recent) Dreams and I

Sabeerday at Montero's

This is just one of the many photos taken that rare occasion to be guested at the Montero's. In this picture (L to R), myself, Yodaks, Amidalak, and Dark, and behind the camera was Luke-O. Well I guess it's quite obvious who's starting to feel the intoxication. Clue is, the twinkling of the eyes, (not obvious symptoms, sluggishness, lethargy, somnolence - for most members of the cybersabeerday barkada these apply). Let it be known though, I was sober the entire time.

Around 3 in the morning, when almost all tricycle drivers were asleep and dreaming (let me also include jeepney drivers), we headed home on foot. It took 10 minutes of waiting for public transport to carry my not-so-sober-friends, 15 minutes of walk, before our accumulated 600 pounds of flesh was picked up by a dilapidated three-wheel vehicle. (or say we stopped the vehicle and pushed our bodies in by force, leaving the driver no other choice but to forbear, and just be motivated by the Php 30 he would get at the destination, hahaha treinta pesos lang ba?)

Wish we can also experience the same, if ever we get a chance to do the session at Termulo's.

PS: Thanks again Dark for accommodating us. Next time ulit.

It's Coke's Biggest Surprise!

It all started when this arrived in my email inbox:

coke-card2.jpg

Actually, I thought it was a hoax first, because it arrived at a time when I was busy answering comments left by MLM employees in my blog. So, I emailed the sender and asked how she came by my email address. And quite promptly, she replied that she got the email address from my personal blog (this blog). I googled her name, Greta Razon, and her affiliation, Keren Pascual Public Relations and Events Management Services and found nothing wrong. I replied to the RSVP invite and fixed my schedule. The event is supposedly Coke’s “Biggest Surprise” to be held at BGCEA Community Facility, right across the NBC Tent.

So, okay, I do not really know what to expect from this event nor could I really bother Ms. Razon about it, since it claimed to be a “surprise”. But, of course, the first thing that would come to mind is that it’s a product launch party. But what product?

So, February 13 arrived and I found my way to BGCEA Community Facility. I was a bit early and found the staff still setting up props so, I left the place for a while and chilled at GoNuts Donuts. And I learned one thing during my stay there: there’s a basketball team called Coca-Cola Tigers. :-) Hahaha. What a noob, you’d say. But hey, I don’t watch basketball nowadays.

After half an hour, I went back to BGCEA Community Facility and found that a lot of guests have already arrived.

I think I might have been a wallflower this time. I didn’t know anyone, though I think I saw Abe there. But, what the heck, I was already there, so I might as well enjoy my stay.

And they did make the guests feel real comfy, while waiting for the “real” event to start:

Who wouldn’t want to get their hands on those bottles?

Waiting to be filled up and emptied

This really tasted good…

And this one, too…

…and this one, too! But please don’t ask me how they’re called. I just ate ‘em and forgot the names because I couldn’t pronounce it. Hehe.

It was almost 6 o’ clock in the evening when we were told to go outside of the place. Then, we were ushered to ride on some shuttles parked outside.

Wait, where are you taking us?!?!

To Shut Up or Not To Shut Up: When MLM Companies Strike Back

“Again, we are doing a LEGITIMATE business. What I’m trying to is DAMAGE CONTROL from what you claim is INFORMATION NETWORKING. If the business is not for you, we respect that. But to blog it out and WARN (?) others (as the company does CRIMINAL activities - we have yet to apprehended, you know), it is so UNFAIR.”

- from a comment by robert tracy at New Recruitment Strategies?

It looked like that the compilation of experiences by bloggers is getting the attention of the MLM companies. And employees have started to do the rounds of blogs who’re speaking negatively about their companies and leaving comments in defense of their companies. Actually, one left the same comment in two different blogs (see this one and this one).

It is good that a discussion is being made and that the two sides are being heard. But when one side claims that the other one should just keep quiet because it “damages their business”, one should wonder: does a blogger need to stop blogging about his experiences in his own blog because it is “damaging” to the other side?
